WHY THE UMMAH NEEDS A THINK TANK

In the modern world, political thought and policy-making are influenced by think tanks. Thousands of these exist in the United States, Europe, India, and China, funded mainly by governments, big businesses, and private donors.
Just two years ago in 2021, we established the Ayaan Institute as a London-based think tank working for the betterment of the Muslim Ummah. We set out with a noble vision to work toward a Muslim world that is united, independent, strong, prosperous, free of wars and conflict, and capable of resolving its issues.
At the heart of this vision is the challenge of strengthening Ummah sentiments and solidarity beyond rhetoric. That requires the production of knowledge, understanding, identifying obstacles, and thinking about practical measures to deal with problems.
In the two years in which we have been established, we have produced 5 key high-quality reports and started work on others (such as on the challenge of the rise of Hindutva ideology in India).

Aiding the Ummah: Analysing the Muslim Humanitarian Charity Sector in the UK

Ummah at the Margins: The past, present and future of Muslim minorities

Muslim Economies: An Analysis of Key Muslim Countries Report

Pakistan’s Political & Economic Crisis Report

Creating a New Civilisation of Islam

We've also carried out the following work:
  • Internship: Appointing a handful of research interns to help us carry out our research (we had over 70 applications).
  • Research Associate Programme: Developed a successful Research Associate Mentoring Programme of 20 individuals to train the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow (most were sisters).
  • In-Depth Articles: We produced many articles on our website thinking through geopolitical issues around the world.
  • Outreach: We contribute to strategic groups in the UK working with others.
  • Media: Speak to the media on issues.
Unlike other think tanks we are not funded by states, nor would we want that, as we wish to remain independent. To date, we have not asked for any public donations.
There is a great deal more to come from Ayaan in the coming years. This is the first time Ayaan is making an appeal to public funds.

So, we invite you to help in this noble work by donating towards this work.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Your donation will help the Ayaan Institute to carry out some vital research that will aid the Ummah.

The State of Muslim Trade and Business

Several factors continue to hold Muslim societies back from economic development and growth – trading relations are still mainly with the former colonial or Western states which increases dependency on them.
An examination of some Muslim majority nation states and their trade relationships highlights just how dependent they have become on the West.
It is important that Muslim minorities in Europe and elsewhere are linked through trade to each other and the wider Muslim world.
They have the potential to be the stimulus for greater inter-connectivity.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - the Peace Maker

Muhammad (PBUH) and the Muhajireen enter medina as penniless asylum seekers medina was a society that is ravaged by blood feuds and revenge killings for a hundred years. Within a couple of years he brings peace to Medina under his leadership. Those that wage war against him were met with war until they chose peace on re-entry mecca there is no mass revenge but a general amnesty to all those who fought him save a few by the end of his 10-year rule in medina he had created a political order that extended to mecca and parts of arabia iraq and palestine from seeking asylum he had created a political order that would change the world forever

The Muslim Ummah and Economic Crises: issues and solutions
We are in the 21st century, yet many Muslim countries are still struggling to survive – they are in debt to others and dependent on international loans to continue existing. The Muslim World faces a series of political and economic crises.
The Refugee Crisis within the Ummah: What is the Future?
The number of Muslim refugees around the world is now more than the population of some Muslim majority states. We have an ummah of refugees. Racism against refugees from indigenous communities is far too prevalent. Muslim NGO’s and aid sector play a key role in providing a lifeline to refugee communities.
